Heating growth stacks for British Columbia companies

BC is two heating markets in one province, and its incentive programs changed in July 2026. A stack here needs separate pages and campaigns by climate zone and fuel, and CRM fields that track which program path a customer is on.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

British Columbia rewards a stack that can tell two climates apart. On the southwest coast, winters are mild and wet, and many homeowners shop for heat pumps as much for summer cooling as for heat. In the Interior and the North, winters are longer and colder, and furnace and boiler reliability decides the sale. A BC heating company that markets both the same way pays for the wrong searches in one zone all year.

The BC market and its buyers

BC splits almost evenly by fuel. In 2023, Statistics Canada recorded natural gas as the main heating energy for 42% of households and electricity for 36%. That makes BC one of the few provinces where a single company may sell gas furnaces, boilers, heat pumps and dual-fuel systems in the same week.

The population is concentrated in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, with Victoria and Saanich on the Island and Kelowna as the Interior's largest centre. Buyers on the coast often compare quotes over weeks; buyers in a cold Interior January often call whoever answers first.

Seasonality and what it means for each layer

Capture. Build separate service pages for heat pumps, furnaces and boilers, and area pages that reflect real climate differences, not just swapped town names.

Demand. Coastal heat pump demand stretches into late spring and summer, because cooling is part of the decision. Interior furnace and boiler demand peaks hard from October to February. Split campaigns and budgets by zone.

Record. Add a CRM field for the customer's current fuel. In BC, fuel switching changes which incentive path applies, and the office needs to see it at a glance.

Proof. Reviews that mention the town and the system help most, because a Kelowna homeowner wants proof from Kelowna, not from Surrey.

Programs to know, as of October 2026

BC's incentive landscape moved in 2026, so every program mention in your stack needs a review date.

  • The CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program offers income-qualified rebates for heat pumps, heat pump water heaters and envelope work. For invoices dated from 2026-07-06, some rebates were removed and eligibility narrowed for certain upgrades, including electric-to-heat-pump conversions. Details are on Better Homes BC.
  • The Home Renovation Rebate Program is listed on Better Homes BC for households that aren't income-qualified. We have not confirmed current amounts, so we don't quote them.
  • Under the federal Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program, BC delivery was announced on 2026-06-29: BC Hydro expanded its no-cost retrofit program for roughly 6,000 lower-income households, and FortisBC is supporting around 1,000 more with dual-fuel and other measures (Canada.ca backgrounder).

Programs change. Confirm with the administrator before any of this appears in an ad.

  • Technical Safety BC is the body to check for gas and electrical contractor licensing, and its scope also reaches boilers and refrigeration.
  • SkilledTradesBC administers trade certification, including for gasfitters and refrigeration mechanics.
  • WorkSafeBC covers workplace safety and insurance.

We summarise these for marketing context only. Licensing and compliance questions go to the regulator.

The BC business mix and how we approach it

BC heating companies range from single-van boiler specialists to multi-branch HVAC firms covering the Lower Mainland and the Island. Many sell across fuels, which makes the record layer especially important: one CRM pipeline needs to handle a gas boiler replacement, a ductless heat pump and a dual-fuel retrofit without confusing the office.

Our approach in BC usually starts with the growth stack blueprint, because fuel and climate splits multiply the places where data can be lost. We then build capture pages by system and zone, and ads with separate coastal and Interior budgets.

BC is our home market. Published results from our HVAC work include GasBoilers.ca, a division built for CANRO Heat that covers 26+ BC communities, and BCWide.ca, which reached 3× leads in 90 days. See results for what those figures do and don't show, or return to all regions. To talk about a BC stack, call, text or email.

Frequently asked questions

Should a BC heating company run one campaign for the whole province?

Rarely. Coastal and Interior customers buy at different times and often want different systems. Splitting campaigns and landing pages by climate zone lets budget follow the season in each one.

Can we still advertise CleanBC heat pump rebates?

Carefully. As of October 2026, the Energy Savings Program is income-qualified and its rules changed for invoices dated on or after 2026-07-06, including narrower eligibility for some upgrades. Link to Better Homes BC and ask customers to confirm their eligibility.

Who regulates gas and electrical contractors in BC?

Technical Safety BC licenses gas and electrical contractors, and SkilledTradesBC administers trade certification. We link to both and leave compliance questions to them.
