Ontario is the biggest heating market in Canada, and the most expensive one in which to buy attention. Natural gas was the main heating energy for 58% of Ontario households in 2023, electricity for 18% and propane for 4%, according to Statistics Canada. Add an active heat pump rebate program and dense competition in the large cities, and you get a market where every wasted click is costly and every well-tracked one is valuable.
The Ontario market and its buyers
Toronto, Ottawa, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton and London are all large markets in their own right, and the Greater Toronto Area alone holds dozens of competing heating companies. Northern Ontario is different again, with longer, colder winters and more propane and oil in rural areas.
In the cities, replacement buyers shop around, read reviews closely and increasingly ask about heat pumps and hybrid systems. Rural and northern buyers put more weight on availability and service coverage.
Seasonality and what it means for each layer
Capture. Separate pages for furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, hybrid systems and water heaters, plus area pages for the specific cities and neighbourhoods you serve. In the GTA, generic "Toronto" pages compete with everyone; pages for the areas you actually reach compete with far fewer.
Record. The outcome wire, from CRM back to the ad accounts, earns its keep here. When a single click can cost several dollars or more, letting Google learn from booked and sold jobs rather than call length makes a measurable difference.
Demand. Southern Ontario's season is moderated by the Great Lakes but still long. Heat pump campaigns stay relevant through spring, especially while rebates are active. Northern campaigns need earlier starts.
Proof. In a crowded market, review volume and recency separate companies that otherwise look identical. A review trigger from job completion is one of the cheapest ways to stand out.
Programs to know, as of October 2026
- The Home Renovation Savings Program, delivered by Save on Energy (IESO) and Enbridge Gas with Ontario government support, lists rebates for single upgrades such as cold-climate air source heat pumps (up to $7,500) and ground source systems (up to $12,000), plus bundled upgrades after a home energy assessment. No closure notice appeared on the official pages as of 2026-10-22 (Save on Energy).
- The Energy Affordability Program provides free upgrades for income-eligible households, including a limited-time stream of free cold-climate heat pumps for eligible oil-heated homes (Save on Energy). The end date of that stream was not published.
- Unlike several other provinces, Ontario had not signed a federal Greener Homes Affordability agreement by the date we checked (2026-10-22), so no CGHAP stream exists to market here yet.

Regulators to link
- TSSA regulates fuels (natural gas, propane, fuel oil), boilers and pressure vessels; only registered fuels contractors using certified gas technicians may do fuels work.
- ESA licenses electrical contractors, and only licensed contractors may bid on or advertise electrical work for others.
- Skilled Trades Ontario handles trade certification, and WSIB covers workplace insurance.
These are linked for marketing context. If your ads mention electrical or fuels work, check with the regulator first.
The Ontario business mix and how we approach it
Ontario heating companies range from single-truck owner-operators to large multi-branch firms, and many sell both gas equipment and heat pumps. The ones that win in the metros tend to be tightly targeted: a defined service area, strong reviews in it, and ads that only bid where the company can actually show up.
Our usual order in Ontario starts with the blueprint, because many companies already spend heavily on ads without knowing what they produce. We then connect the CRM to the ad accounts, tighten paid ads by area and system, and switch on review generation.
For Ontario companies, our group's parent sites are HVAC.Agency and HVAC.Digital. For published results, see results, or return to all regions. To talk about an Ontario stack, call, text or email.
Frequently asked questions
Which Ontario heat pump rebates can we mention?
As of October 2026, the Home Renovation Savings Program, run by Save on Energy and Enbridge Gas with provincial support, lists rebates of up to $7,500 for a cold-climate air source heat pump and up to $12,000 for ground source. Link to the program and ask customers to confirm their eligibility.
Do Ontario rules limit how we advertise?
Some do. Only TSSA-registered fuels contractors may do fuels-related work, and only ESA licensed electrical contractors may bid on or advertise electrical work for others. Confirm what applies to your business with TSSA and ESA directly.
Why are Ontario ad costs so high?
The Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa and Hamilton have many heating companies bidding on the same searches. That is exactly why feeding sold-job data back to the ad platforms matters more in Ontario than almost anywhere else.
